Ya'll know I BISCUITS...., BUT Ms. Drea has already put me on due to the humming I put down while eating them....., so I put a twist on an old favorite....,
TOFFEE APPLE PIE
INGREDIENTS
5 cups thinly sliced peeled Granny Smith apples
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 (1.4 ounce) bar Heath candy bar, chopped
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 tablespoon butter or margarine, melted
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 dash ground nutmeg
1 (9 inch) unbaked pastry shell
Note: 1/4 teaspoon of Allspice is an optional ingredient if you want additional flavor or do not have above spices.
TOPPING
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 tablespoons cold butter or margarine
1/4 cup chopped nuts
1 (1.4 ounce) bar Heath candy bar, chopped
DIRECTIONS
In a bowl, combine the first eight ingredients. Spoon into pie shell.
For topping, combine the flour, brown sugar and cinnamon; cut in butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add nuts and chopped candy bar. Sprinkle over pie.
Bake at 375 degrees F for 30-35 minutes or until topping is browned and apples are tender.
When serving add a scoop of vanilla or cinnamon ice cream on top!!!
Note: My new adventures in non-traditional recipes are due to the friends we have on our boards. Some of us don't like chocolate ....., so I try newer ideas to expand our horizons. Enjoy!!!
